When to Start Getting Botox
There’s no “official” age limit on getting Botox, in either direction. Genetics and lifestyle choices can influence when you might feel it’s time to start treatment, with the modern era leading an increasing number of women to request anti-aging Botox injections. That said, most women start feeling the need for Botox once they hit their 40th birthday, or later.
The Process: Botox Injections, Step by Step
Step 1 – Consultation and diagnosis
This step is essential, as it helps prepare both the patient and the physician for the aesthetic treatment. The patient’s skin condition is diagnosed and a treatment plan is determined. During the initial consultation, the attending physician might recommend that multiple treatments be integrated, to achieve the best possible results. Additionally, the physician will determine the precise dose for your skin’s condition. You may be instructed to stop taking certain nutritional supplements or blood thinners, before starting the treatment.
Duration: Approximately 15 minutes.
Note that once the treatment plan is prepared, the treatment itself often takes just a few minutes to a quarter of an hour, depending on the selected course of treatment.
About the Treatment: Local injections to pre-determined areas of the face are made using a thin needle. There is no need for anesthesia to be injected beforehand, although some people prefer applying anesthetic creams to the injection sites ahead of treatment sessions.
After getting Botox, you will need to avoid engaging in strenuous activity for the rest of the day. It’s also recommended that you limit how often or how much you touch your face.
The treatment’s effects will be noticeable after approximately 48 hours. You may experience local swelling, which will disappear within a few days. After a week, you’ll notice the full Botox effect, completely side-effect-free.
Treatment Effects: While some women feel the need to repeat treatment every few months, others enjoy longer-lasting effects, and only return for more Botox after a year.
